This thought is the cornerstone on which A Course in Miracles is built because it is the truth. From love is everything possible for our healing and the healing of the world. This thought is the reason why “you are the light of the world” …“why God appointed you as the world’s savior” …“why the Son of God looks to you for his salvation.” The Son of God is saved because, “Love created you like itself.”
As this lesson goes on to say, “Any attribute which is in accord with God as He defines Himself is appropriate for use.” It is attempting to loosen the images by which you have imagined yourself and replace them with the truth about yourself. This lesson also redefines God into what He truly is and not the image you have made of Him from your limited perspective. All that He is, you are, since you “are part of His definition of Himself.” Therefore, repeating thoughts such as, “Holiness created me holy. Kindness created me kind. Helpfulness created me helpful. Perfection created me perfect.” etc., take on a new meaning because you are not only affirming them for yourself but for God and yourself as a part of Him. To deny these attributes for yourself not only limits you, but limits God’s healing power in your life. This is not because God is limited, but you are because you are denying Him His power in your life, outside of which is nothing.
No matter how long you may have been denying God’s presence in your life, or whether or not you believe it right now, this lesson is telling you that love created you like itself and that this truth is in our minds to find. We may begin the process of remembering this by first affirming the thought and then applying other related thoughts like the ones above. No matter how we may feel about this process, the Course is telling us, “Be confident that you will do much today to bring that awareness [Love created me like itself] nearer, whether you feel you have succeeded or not.”
This lesson, which is the thought in our Prayer Ministry for February, is reminding us that we need to be affirmed of the truth about ourselves, since we are “so preoccupied with false self-images.” We need to realize this truth is not some fanciful dream but the mighty power of God reminding us of Who He is and that we are His Child. “This is the Voice of truth, replacing everything that the ego tells you about yourself with the simple truth about the Son of God. You were created by love like itself.”
